Friends and Colleagues,

Please click on the link below to watch a short video from Walter Moreau, Executive Director of Foundation Communities, the foremost builder of affordable housing in Austin and perhaps all of Texas.  Foundation Communities is a prime example of what can be done to keep a roof over the heads of poor working people and families and provide supports that keep them successfully housed.  Walter, over and over again, has leveraged a small amount of bond funds to patch together funding from 8-10 other sources in order to build affordable, yet attractive, housing in this city.  The housing bond money is CRITICAL to this process!  Austin, now with the 9th highest rental costs of any city in the U.S., depends on creating more units of affordable housing in order to have and keep a community healthy with a mix of people that we all rely on, from teachers to restaurant workers to musicians.  We are currently short 38,000 units of affordable housing and at least 2,400 units of supportive housing (housing with supports services for those who need help to live independently, such as those with disabilities).

PLEASE VOTE YES on the housing bond issue, and ask your friends in Austin to do the same.  Early voting started this week, and don’t forget your picture ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.)
Thank you,
Marilyn Hartman
