National Mental Health and Dignity Day

This is event is part of national movement and hosted by Beyond Today.  NAMI Austin will be have a table and be sharing information and resources. Learn more here or download the flyer.

Saturday, May 10:
Stand Up & Soar for Children’s Mental Health
10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the
North Entrance of the State Capitol (Entrance closest to 15th Street)
Because one in five children and youth have a diagnosable mental health need, children and families need to know it’s okay to seek help.  Help us recognize Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week by joining us for this event sponsored by the Texas System of Care. Participants are encouraged to wear green shoes or ribbons.  Make yourself a NAMI sign as well! Learn morehere.

Tuesday, May 13:
Film Screening of “Of Two Minds”
7:30 p.m. at Aviary Lounge

This FREE event is hosted by NAMI Austin and features a screening of this award-winning documentary followed by a discussion.  Aviary Lounge features a full menu available for those interested in purchasing food or beverages. To learn more about this film, click here.

Mayor Lee Leffingwell will recognize NAMI Austin in conjunction with Mental Health Awareness Month. Please wear green and show your support!

Saturday, May 17:
NAMI Austin Potluck Picnic
11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Ramsey Park

This is a perfect opportunity for Family-to-Family and Peer-to-Peer class reunions. So, please share this information and join us for a day of celebrating and sharing!

  • Wear something green
  • Bring your own main dish (such as sandwiches or fried chicken) and side dish to share (such as chips, fruit, salad, dessert)
  • Bring your own lawn chairs, sunblock and drinks!

Monday, May 19:
May Community Meeting
7:00 pm at ASH Nifty-Fifty Diner

Greg Hansch, Public Policy Coordinator for NAMI Texas and Kathryn Lewis, Supervising Attorney for Disability Rights Texas, will serve on a panel focused on Assisted Outpatient Treatment.  Bring a friend and join us for this important conversation.

Tuesday, May 20:
“Helping Parents and Schools Address Mental Health Needs of Youth”
6:30 p.m. Vista Ridge High School
This NAMI Austin presentation will help ­­families understand the early warning signs of mental illnesses in children and adolescents,  provide tips for parents and families on how to intervene and insure mental health treatment needs are linked with service and offer strategies families can use to communicate with schools about mental health-related concerns.
